Foot Arthritis

What is foot arthritis?

Arthritis is a disease that slowly destroys healthy cartilage in the joints. Some more severe types of arthritis can even cause the bones in the feet to become distorted and the “fat pads” on the bottom of the feet to become thin. The bones then start to protrude making it extremely painful to stand and walk.

How is foot arthritis treated?

Although not a cure, an effective treatment option to reduce foot, ankle and knee pain associated with arthritis is soft or accommodative custom made orthotics. The custom made orthotics help maintain proper foot position, relieve mechanical stress and lessen the pressure on sensitive areas. Extra cushioning can also be added to the custom made orthotics to replace some of the fat lost on the bottom of the feet. The type of orthotics and materials used to manufacture them depend on the type arthritis being treated.
